Insects carry bacteria and cause many illnesses and death every year.
If you need to get rid of insects preferably flying gnats of other flying bugs here's a simple and effective method to get rid of the critters.
Insects don't like vinegar because it can kill them.
And vinegar is inexpensive and it has over 1000 uses.

What you need:
Pot
Vinegar - preferably Apple Cider Vinegar
Optional: Add Onion-onions kill insects as well
Electric hot plate
Directions:
Put Vinegar in pot
Place in desired room you want to kill flying insects
Plug into hotplate place pot on top
Close any doors or windows if possible
Let come to steam and check on the hot plate every 15 min
Once the vinegar gets low turn off
repeat if necessary
